MLK Health Awarded The Glen’s 2018 President’s Award
The Glen Retirement System’s Board of Directors awarded its President’s Award in April to the MLK Health Center and Pharmacy to provide needed funds and support to a geriatric clinic. The $2,000 President’s Award will also create a new partnership with the two Shreveport nonprofits – both working to support senior health care services.
“This year’s President’s Award recipient is a new partnership toward an investment in health care,” President and CEO Debra Williams said. “As a nonprofit ourselves, this collaborative effort helps us with part of our mission to provide services to seniors, but also will broaden our impact directly to seniors living in our local community. MLK Health provides a picture of wellness, that walks patients through a progression in dealing with chronic illnesses.”
MLK Health provides services to both the uninsured and the underinsured. In 2017, MLK Health provided access to clinical care, medication assistance and health education for over 150 unduplicated patients who are 62 and older. With The Glen’s President’s Award funds will be utilized to support quality clinical care, diagnostic laboratory services, life sustaining medications and wellness education during 12 geriatric special clinics offered each month at MLK Health. The dates for the clinics will be May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20 and April 17.
“MLK Health is honored to be the 2018 President’s Award Recipient. Our partnership with The Glen Retirement System is an exciting opportunity to increase awareness around the health care challenges senior adults face in our community. We will work together to ensure no senior adult is forced to struggle alone with their health. Together we can build healthier communities,” Janet Mentesane, executive director of MLK Health, said.
